womelsdorf volunteer fire company - womelsdorffire.com home event calendar apparatus members history photo gallery fund raising wvfd gear links become a sponsor of this site sponsored by: wessner contracting150 stone roadwomelsdorf, pa 19567610-589-4785 click for details view all sponsors listen to what's happening in berks! berks live (live fire/police feed) 2008 calls to date 123 2007 call total 184 welcome to womelsdorf fire company's website! the womelsdorf volunteer fire company is a 100% volunteer civic organization that is responsible for fire suppression, rescue, and hazardous material incidents, as well as numerous other types of emergencies and has been responding to these calls for the past 110 years, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. our station is designated as company 47 with the berks county communications center. we are one of the 70 all-volunteer or combination paid/volunteer fire companies in berks county. we are located in berks county, about 15 miles west of the city of reading. our primary coverage area includes womelsdorf borough and we share coverage of heidelberg township with the pioneer hose company of robesonia. the borough has about 0.81 square miles with a population of 2600 residents. the township has 13.9 square miles and a population of over 1630 residents. weekly training night: every tuesday starting at 7:00pm location: womelsdorf fire company engine house (501 west high street, womelsdorf) monthly meeting night: every last tuesday of each month starting at 7:00pm location: womelsdorf fire company engine house (501 west high street, womelsdorf) social quarters meeting: first monday of each month starting at 7:00pm. location: womelsdorf fire company social quarters (20 north front street, womelsdorf) recent news & upcoming events! wvfc assists marion fire co. with fatal crash 2008-10-01 - on monday, sept. 28 after 7:00am, the womelsdorf fire company, along with rescue/engine 34 from newmanstown fire co. and rescue 31 from keystone fire co. of myerstown were dispatched to routes 419 & 422 for a vehicle accident with entrapment in the borough. assistant 47 (r.zerbe) went responding and was advised the accident was just west of the intersection. the deputy chief from the marion fire co. who lives in the area arrived on scene confirming a total of 4 subjects trapped in two vehicles and that the accident was in marion twp. between canal rd. and sheridan rd. as a result, co.52 (marion) was then dispatched. arriving just after an ambulance from western berks ems, crews from attack and engine 47 found two vehicles that had collided head-on, in which the first vehicle contained a driver only and the second vehicle contained a driver, front seat passenger, and an infant in a car seat in the rear passenger area. upon checking the driver of first vehicle, she was found to be deceased. our crews then assisted with stabilization, patient care, and a protection handline for the second vehicle. the infant was removed from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital by ems. crews from newmanstown and myerstown then removed the roof and driver's door and pushed the dash forward to extricate the unconscious driver and the front seat passenger. ladder 47 was assigned to establish air medical landing zone at the womelsdorf athletic field for medevac 7. the driver was then flown to a trauma center while the passenger was transported to an area hospital by ground. also on scene were engine & utility 52 from the marion fire co. rescue 27 (rehrersburg) was requested by command earlier in the incident however was not utilized on scene. crews from engine/rescue 34 and 52 later extricated the subject that was deceased from that vehicle. ems units included western berks ems, newmanstown ems, myerstown ems, and first aid & safety patrol medic. fire police from numerous depts. assisted with traffic control. the pennsylvania state police were on the scene to reconstruct the accident. update: the driver of the second vehicle has now died. visit www.readingeagle.com for story and additional pictures. picture from the reading eagle picture from the reading eagle fire station located at 501 west high street womelsdorf, pa 19567 telephone/fax: 610-589-4645 electronic mail: info@womelsdorffire.com copyright 2005 womelsdorf fire company, all rights reserved. designed, developed, hosted & maintained by: jag computer services
