wescott fire protection district 15415 gleneagle drive, colorado springs, colorado  80921 first annual benefit concert featuring kyler england help us kick off national fire prevention week by joining us for a night of live music featuring independent recording artist kyler england.   we will be hosting our first annual benefit concert for the rescue 1 volunteers on sunday, october 5th, 2008 at 5:00 pm.   tickets are $10 for adults (2 for $15) and $5 for kids (2 for $8).   seats are limited so purchase your tickets soon by calling (719)488-8680 or stopping by station #1.   see the flyer for more information. wescott "fills the boot" for jerry's kids the wescott fire department spent the 5 days of the labor day holiday “filling the boot” for the muscular dystrophy association and "jerry's kids".   the department would like to thank each and every member of the gleneagle and greater tri-lakes communities for their generous hearts and kind spirit.   thanks to them, we not only reached our goal to raise $10,000.00 but we raised $14,300.00, a wescott record.   all monies collected stay right here in the southern colorado area to help those afflicted with a neuromuscular disability.    nationally, the labor day telethon raised $65 million.   the department would also like to thank the managers and employees of king soopers and wal-mart for allowing firefighters to fill the boot outside their doors.    thanks again to all those who donated. "wings of honor" to be awarded on sept. 19th, five members of the wescott fire department and one member of the colorado springs fire department will be awarded the “wings of honor” award presented by flight for life of colorado.   csfd battalion chief jim schanel (not pictured), capt. scott ridings, amr paramedic doug mcintyre, ff curt leonhardt, ff roger lance, and engineer james rackl will be presented with their award during ceremonies to be held at the new st. francis medical center and flight for life’s hanger facilities.   the honorees were the first medical crew to arrive on the scene for the shootings at new life church in december of 2007 where they risked their lives to provide treatment and transport of the victims.   the five men from wescott were previously awarded the wescott medal of valor for their actions. promotions for members at the august 20th meeting of the board of directors, firefighter bryan ackerman was sworn in as the newest lieutenant for the wescott fire department.   also, emt jeff sherman was sworn in as a full member of the department, having completed all training and requirements for membership.   congratulations to both members.     new board of director members on may 21st, greg gent, scott campbell, and dennis feltz were sworn in as the newest members of the wescott board of directors, elected at the may 6th special districts election.   outgoing board members brian ritz and joe potter were presented with plaques thanking them for their service to the department and the community by chief jeff edwards.   director kevin gould was elected president of the board with mr. gent elected as secretary and director dennis feltz elected as the treasurer.   board meetings are held the 3rd wednesday of every month at station 1 starting at 7:00pm and the public is welcome to attend. community wildfire partners the wescott fire department has joined with the colorado state forest service community wildfire prevention partners to educate and provide assistance to homeowners living in the wildland interface areas of the district. the department will be conducting a community risk assessment and hope to implement a protection plan to assist homeowners in preparing their properties to minimize the dangers when a wildfire threatens the district. if you are unsure if your home is in the wildland interface, please call station 1 and we will assist you. the department also offers home and property inspections at no cost. to schedule an inspection, contact the on- duty officer at 488-8680. be firewise! many areas in the wescott fire protection district are considered fire-prone to wildfire.  click here to learn more about how you can protect yourself and your property.   wfpd is involved in... previous stories this website, and all contents, copyright by the donald wescott fire protection district.  any copying, linking, or other use without express written consent is prohibited. for comments on this website , contact the webmaster
