multiple car accidents on route 1 south tied up traffic thursday december 4th, and forced motorists into 1 lane. more information to follow.    car fire scudders mill rd ramp thursday, december 4, 2008 - on thursday morning december 4th, 2008 at approximately 0930hrs the fire company was dispatched to a car fire on the exit ramp from route 1 south to scudders mill rd.   engine 49-1 arrived and confirmed a car fire well involved. the exit ramp was shut down by police for a short time to allow crews to extinguish the fire.  once it was determined the fire was out, the vehicle was removed, and units cleared.   units that responded were plainsboro police, deputy 49, engine 49-1, ladder 49 and rescue 49.            car fire in ravens crest sunday, november 30, 2008 - on a quiet sunday afternoon, november 30th around 1542hrs the fire company was dispatched to a car fire in ravens crest.  numerous 911 calls were received reporting a fully involved car fire in the parking lot.  the vehicle was parked away from any exposures.  engine 49-1 arrived on location and quickly extinguished the fire.  deputy 49 held the call to engine 49-1, and engine 49.  once overhaul was complete, units picked up and returned to quarters.  units the responded, deputy 49, engine 49-1, engine 49, and plainsboro police.            car fire with exposures thursday, november 6, 2008 - on thursday november 6th, 2008 at approximately 1800hrs plainsboro central notified the fire department of a car fire in the wyndham hotel parking lot off of scudders mill rd.  the police arrived on location and confirmed a car fire with exposures. chief 49 arrived and confirmed the same.  engine 49 arrived on scene and within minutes had the fire extinguished.  due to the quick actions of all involved the fire was contained to only 1 vehicle.  once overhaul of the vehicle was completed all units picked up and returned to quarters.  units that responded, plainsboro police, chief 49, deputy 49, engine 49, rescue 49, and the plainsboro rescue squad.    busy day for the fire company tuesday, august 26, 2008 - tuesday august 26, 2008 would turn out to be a busy day for the fire company.  at 0917hrs the fire company was dispatched for a cover assignment to north brunswick station #3, cozzens lane.  the fire company filled in as an available engine company for the town of north brunswick, while firefighters from several norh brunswick stations had their hands full with an apartment fire.  the fire company stood by at the station until released by command and returned to quarters at 1520hrs. about an hour later the fire company was dispatched to cranbury as the rit team for a fire at 26 brickyard rd.  just a few minutes into the assignment rescue 49 was recalled.  then at approximately 1708hrs the fire company was dispatched to send an engine for a working fire at 26 brickyard rd in cranbury.  at the same time a request to have an additional engine cover cranbury's station was made.  while crews from engine 49 assisted other fire companies at the fire, the crew from engine 49-1 covering cranbury's station was dispatched for a 2 car crash with rollover at 11 station rd.  cranbury police confirmed no entrapment.  engine 49-1 stood by until the accident scene was cleaned up and the vehicles were removed.  command had released engine 49 from the fire scene and returned to quarters at approximately 1944hrs. as engine 49-1 was on its way back to plainsboro at 2000hrs another fire call came in for 100 college rd east and the engine responded from the street.  engine 49-1 arrived on scene to a 3 story hotel  with nothing showing.  crews were informed that it was an activated pull station, the alarm was reset and crews cleared up.           rit team assignment in west windsor monday, august 25, 2008 - in the early morning hours of monday august 25, 2008 at approximately 0407hrs the fire company was dispatched for a cover assignment to princeton junction station 44.  as engine 49-1 was about to roll out of the station mercer central advised them that they had been upgraded to the scene of the fire as the rit team.  rescue 49 responded to 305 trinity court in west windsor and stood by as the rit team until relased by command.            door pop schalks crossing friday, august 15, 2008 - on friday august 15, 2008 at approximately 2050hrs the fire company was dispatched to a 2 car crash at the intersection of schalks crossing rd and market street.  the first aid squad had requested the fire company for a door pop.  the passenger side door of 1 vehicle involved in the crash had it's door removed for patient packaging by the first aid squad.  the fire company cleared the scene after the patient was packaged and the vehicles were removed from the roadway.  units that responded were, plainsboro police, plainsboro ems, chief 49, engine 49-1 and rescue 49.            rit team assignment west windsor 2 restrick court wednesday, july 16, 2008 - on wednesday july 16th while out on a fire alarm at 101 college rd. east units were just clearing up when mercer central called station 49 for a fast team assignment in west windsor.  the fast team was called in on the first alarm, to 2 restrick court at approximately 1930hrs.  as engine 49-1 made it's way down college rd. towards west windsor a large plume of black smoke could be seen.  just prior to engine 49-1 arriving command had ordered all firefighters out of the building and to setup defensive operations.  this was due to the instability of the structure.  as the fast team was getting situated on the a/b corner of the structure, a few minutes later the a/d corner of the house where the garage was collapsed.  the crew from engine 49-1 stood by until released by command.  no injuries were reported and the occupants of the house escaped prior to the arrival of the first due company.  all photos used in this story are courtesy of  www.njfirefighters.com           car through guardrail plainsboro road saturday, july 12, 2008 - at approximately 1230 hours on saturday july 12th station 49 was dispatched to plainsboro road in the area of devil's brook for a one-car motor vehicle crash with a vehicle off the roadway.  the vehicle left the roadway and crashed through the guardrail and down the embankment.  the operator of the vehicle had self extricated himself and was not injured.  middlesex county hazmat was called for fluids that had leaked into the brook.  crews assisted middlesex county hazmat with their investigation, and waited for the vehicle to be removed.  deputy 49, engine 49-1, rescue 49, plainsboro rescue squad, plainsboro police, and middlesex county hazmat responded.            rit team assignment 51 remington circle west windsor monday, may 19, 2008 - during the evening rush hour of monday may 19th 2008 at approximately 1700hrs mercer central requested rescue 49 for a rit team assignment at a working house fire in west windsor. within moments of the call a full crew hopped aboard rescue 49 for the ride into west windsor. this assignment would turn out to be far from a routine call for rit team 49. in the past, all calls that the rit team has gone on have been routine, standing ready in the event a brother/sister firefighter goes down. then without warning a frantic mayday was transmitted, sending a bone chilling realization that a firefighter was in trouble. rit team 49 quickly jumped into action as they've trained so many times in the past for, but this time it was for real, not a drill. the team along with members from robbinsville station 40 quickly made it to the downed firefighter and got him in a stokes basket and out of the dwelling and to waiting emt's to be checked out. fortunately the firefighter that was removed did not sustain any life threating injuries. the wind whipped fire kept crews busy trying to get a handle on it. it took about and hour to bring the fire under control. the rit team stood by until the fire was out and overhaul was complete. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. fire companies that responded to the blaze were, west windsor, east windsor, hightstown, lawrence, hamilton, and plainsboro. a link to the video of the fire: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1fkuruhb ****all photos are credited to http://www.njfirefighters.com and http://www.onsceneonline.com*****written permission was give to use video and pictures from their site on our website.           task force 801 drills at fmc tuesday, may 13, 2008 - a drill was conducted at fmc with members of task force 801 on tuesday night may 13th. the drill covered breaking and breaching through cinder block walls, using different techniques and a varitey of tools, including a concrete chainsaw, k12, sledge hammer, and electric chisel. fire companies that participated with plainsboro were, ewing station 32, kingston station 24, lawrenceville station 22, and squad 168 princeton ems.           mutual aid to south brunswick best buy fire sunday, may 11, 2008 - in the early morning hours of sunday may 11, 2008 the fire company was toned out for 1 engine to respond to best buy in south brunswick. engine 49 rolled with a crew of 5 to assist fire companies already on scene. arriving units were faced with a smoke condition pushing from the front of the building. first responding units from kingston, had to force the front door, and cut the roof hatch for ventilation. the sprinkler system kept the fire in check, and first in units made quick knock down of the fire. crews from engine 49 and utility 49 assisted with ventilation of best buy and the adjacent staples store. fire companies that responded were, kingston, monmouth junction, kendall park, rocky hill, and plainsboro.   task force 801 drill tuesday, april 22, 2008 - on tuesday evening april 22nd the members of plainsboro fire company drilled with several other stations who are part of task force 801. the drill took place at fmc off of plainsboro road. the members went over basic knot tying techniques, patient packaging, and rigging and lowering of a packaged patient. the companies that participated with plainsboro were, station 32 ewing, cranbury fire station 48, plainsboro rescue squad, and squad 168 princeton ems.           mva plainsboro road at edgemere friday, april 18, 2008 - during the rush hour on april 18th at approximately 5pm the fire company was dispatched to a 2 car mva at the intersection of plainsboro rd. and edgemere ave. chief 49 arrived on location and reported a 2 car mva with 1 patient still inside the vehicle. since this call came in during the rush hour additional rescue's and another engine from surrounding areas responded. the crews from engine 49-1 along with station 66 pppl crews removed the roof of the vehicle to gain access to the patient. once the roof was removed the patient was packaged and transported to a nearby hospital. crews remained on scene for a short while the police completed their accident investigation. once both vehicles were removed from the roadway units cleared the scene. units that responded were, chief 49, deputy 49, engine 49-1, rescue 49, engine 49, station 66 pppl with an engine and ambulance, princeton junction rescue 44, east windsor rescue 42, plainsboro police, and plainsboro ems.           rollover with entrapment rt1 south near courtyard by marriott sunday, january 13, 2008 -
