monroeville volunteer fire department # 1 home archives apparatus members lighter side station store links download our application quint 1 engine 12 rescue 1 medic 1-8 medic 1-9 chief 1 squad 1 monroeville volunteer fire department # 1 photo of the day for welcome and thank you for visiting monroeville volunteer fire department #1. the municipality of monroeville is located approximately 12 miles east of the city of pittsburgh in allegheny county, pennsylvania and covers approximately 20 square miles. monroeville is comprised of single and multi-residential, retail, commercial, and industrial buildings. populations range from 70,000-100,000 daylight, and over 30,000 nighttime. the monroeville fire department is made up of five fire stations, which provide fire, ems, various phases of rescue services, and fire prevention / public education. the monroeville fire department responds to a wide variety of incidents, both in monroeville and also assisting neighboring communities. station 1 is the oldest fire station in monroeville, and began as old patton twp. fire co. 1,which has evolved into monroeville fire company #1 over 75 years. station 1 provides 100% volunteer fire and rescue services, and combination paid / volunteer emergency medical services. station 1 houses one 77' aerial quint, one heavy engine, a structural / technical rescue truck, two als/bls ambulances, light-duty squad, chief's car. upcomin events tuesday, november 11, 2008 - around 1030hrs today monroeville communication received a call from westmorland communication about a large fuel leak/spill in murrysville. units were dispatched to alpine village area of town to check creek area. crews staged in the area set up equipment in creek for precautions. crews were onscene for about 1hr before being released. command: chief 60 (katofsky) units: r-4, e-51, e-62,r-6, r-1, m-19, sq-6, cmd-32, mini 3 monroeville fd paticipates in historic training tuesday, november 25, 2008 - monroeville fd would like to thank ccac, allegheny county fire academy, state fire office and the monroeville fire chiefs for the training session that was held in monroeville over the past 2 weekends. monroeville fd got the opportunity over the past 2 weekends to participate in a training drill that doesn't happen very often. mfd was able to use the once famous palace inn for live fire training. crews were able to cover all aspects of fire ground ops from stand pipes, hose line management, search and rescue, forcible entry, aerial ops and command. crews used a variety of mfd equipment from engines, tankers, aerials, air truck and command truck. fire alarm w/ fire friday, november 21, 2008 - just before 1600hrs today monroeville fd was dispatched to oxford apts for a fire alarm while the call was being dispatched mecc received numerous call reporting unknown fire in the basement. chief 40 (cole) arrived onscene to find nothing showing from all sides. e-12 arrived onscene side 3 with hydrant and stand-pipes. interior crews reporting a brush fire in the basement area. crews from t-4 helped with ventilation. residents returned to apts after smoke dissipated. units were back in service in less then 30 minutes. command: chief 40 (d.cole) interior ops: c-13 (captain s. beltz) units: e-12,e-31,e-61,t-4,m-19,m-47,mpd,tv-15 electrical room fire wednesday, november 12, 2008 - this morning monroeville fd was called to one of the office buildings in the oxford development for a fire alarm. crews arrived onscene and found a small fire in the electrical room were the motors for the elevators are located. crews extinguished and contained the fire with dry chem. fire was caused by a cardboard box left near the motor. crews remained on scene for minor ventilation.**all pictures courtesy of monroeville tv-15** command: c-55 (r. douthit) units: e-12,e-31,e-42,t-5 vechile crash w/ entrapment tuesday, november 11, 2008 - today monroeville fd 3,1,6,truck 5 were dispatched to a residence with smoke condition inside. chief 30 (j.hyzy) arrived onscene to find multi-residential townhouses with nothing showing. chief 30 spoke with resident and found it to be a possible problem with a washing machine. command held quint 1 and engine 31 to investigate further. crews checked interior with tic and found not other problem. command was terminated. command: chief 30 (j.hyzy) units: e-31, quint 1, m-18,t-5,mpd 1 quint machine fire sunday, november 9, 2008 - alittle after 1300hrs today monroeville fd 4,1,5 and cmd 32 were dispatched to a possible structure fire @ ruby's cleaners on monroeville blvd. e-41 and c-11 arrived to find light smoke coming from 1 and 4. crews from e-41 pulled 1 3/4 handline to main entrance e-51 arrived and established water supply and assisted with interior ops. c-11 assumed command. crews found motor fire on cleaning machine. crews used dry chem extinguishers to contain and extinguish fire. quint 1 and truck 5 assisted with overhaul and ventilation. command 32 assisted with closing roadway. crews were onscene for about 1 hr. command: asst.chief sonafelt (c-11) units: e-41,e-51,t-5,quint 1, command 32, m-47,m-19,a-58 entrance stove fire 1st district monday, october 27, 2008 - around 1700hrs this evening monroeville fd was dispatched to a residence on park place for a possible stove fire. quint 1 arrived onscene to find smoke showing from side 1 of the house and all residents evacuated. c-12 assumed command and quint 1 established a water supply. interior ops found fire out in stove with no extension. crews used natural ventilation. command: asst.chief lieb (c-12)//interior ops: captain beltz (c-13) units: quint 1,e-61,t-4,m-19,mpd 4th district house fire sunday, october 26, 2008 - today the guys from station 1 took a trip with firefighter pat to snowball preschool in the 1st district. they helped explain the importance of safety to the kids and teachers then gave a tour of quint 1 and medic 19. the kids got to sit in the rigs, try on the gear and of course see all the bells and whistles. 2nd mutual aid house fire sunday, october 19, 2008 - alittle after 2300hrs tonight station 1 was again called for mutual aid into turtle creek to assist with a dryer on fire inside a residence. units arrived to find smoke and fire showing side 1. crews from quint 1 assisted with primary search and throwing ground ladders. after the fire was knocked down crews assisted with overhaul. monroeville command- asst.chief sonafelt (c-11) units: quint 1, m-19,tcfd,tcpd,wilmerding fd,north braddock vfd mutual aid residential house fire saturday, october 18, 2008 - monroeville station 1 was dispatched on 2nd alarm today to turtle creek to assist with a structure fire. quint 1,rescue 1, a19 and a18 all responded. quint 1 was ordered by command to establish 2nd water supply. crews from q-1 assisted with inital fire attack and overhaul. rescue 1 supplied air and scene lighting. crews were onscene for about 2 hours. monroeville command- asst.chief lieb (c-12) units- quint 1, rescue 1, a-19,a-18,tcfd,tcpd,wilmerding fd,north braddock vfd electrical conditon la fitness friday, october 17, 2008 - while clearing up from the 6th district mfd 4,5,1,cmd 32 were dispatched to the new la fitness in mmsc for a smell of electrical burning in the business. units arrived and staged in lot. crews checked interior of bldg along with hvac units on roof top. command- asst.chief rowntree (c-41) units- e-41,e-51,t-4,t-5,quint 1,r-1,m-19 smoke in apt bldg 6th district friday, october 17, 2008 -
