explorer post 43 seeks new members wednesday, july 23 2008 @ 10:16 pm edt become an evfd explorer today! the ellington volunteer fire dept explorer post 43 is looking for new members. the program has been running since last summer and has had a great success. the program consists of learning about fire behavior, safety, and rescue. we go on many trips around the state and visit many places to learn about fire rescue and we will continue to travel to sites related to the fire service. we have already visited dispatch centers, an airport fire dept, and training camps for firefighting. the ellington volunteer fire dept is a well respected organization where you will be able to be active in the community and be able to enjoy taking part in your town. there are currently six members and we're still growing. we are actively recruiting more members. the requirements for the explorer post 43 include being academically applicable according to your school regulations. you must also be at least 14 years old and graduated the eighth grade. if you have any interest in a firefighting career or volunteer organizations this is the first step. you can pick up applications at the main office at the high school, or stop by the firehouse. you can also download an application on this website. you can call the fire dept at 870-3190 for more information. if you are interested, stop by at one of our meetings or drills for a visit! explorers complete cadet camp wednesday, july 23 2008 @ 04:24 pm edt the explorers completed cadet camp. this summer six of the explorers attended "cadet camp" at the connecticut fire academy. it is a program that gives junior firefighters an introduction to the fire service. at camp, the explorers worked with hose lines, ladders, and learned the techniques of search and rescue. all the cadets also attended a parade in washington depot where they earned some trophies. at the end of their stay, the cadets had to put on a show of what they learned. there were three scenarios; a fire in a building, a plane fire, and a large ground fire. all of the ellington volunteer fire department’s explorers graduated the camp. tanker shuttle drill ellington tuesday, july 15 2008 @ 09:46 am edt tanker shuttle drill in ellington thursday july 24th, 7pm - tanker operations and equipment two hour class and open discussion on tanker operations and equipment class at station 43, 29 main st. in ellington saturday july 26th, 9am - tanker shuttle practical we are looking for at least five tankers or big ets as long as they have 1500 gallons all are welcome to just come and watch our goal is 1000 gpm with drop tanks and a 2.6 mile loop we have two tanks, looking for one more meet at station 43, 29 main st. in ellington. we hope to finish 11-12:00. contact deputy chief jack turner or deputy chief gary feldman comments (28) trackbacks (0) most recent post: 08/28 09:07am by anonymous annual meeting and election of officers friday, may 09 2008 @ 09:26 pm edt evfd elects new officers friday evening, the ellington volunteer fire department had its annual meeting. at the meeting, fire department members elected their board of directors for the coming terms. the position of chief , assistant chief, and deputy chief are two-year terms. captains, lieutenants, secretary, and treasurer are elected every year. the results of the elections are as follows: chief ~ michael varney assistant chief ~ robert levandoski deputy chief (apparatus) ~ jack turner deputy chief (training) ~ gary feldman, sr. captain ~ jack rich ii captain ~ vince gambacorta lieutenant ~ brendan burke lieutenant ~ robert smith lieutenant ~ tom adams secretary ~ jonathan allen treasurer ~ betsi feldman comments (0) trackbacks (3) post a comment ellington heartsafe community monday, may 05 2008 @ 03:06 pm edt ellington designated heartsafe community ellington has joined 18 other towns in connecticut designated as heartsafe communities. ellington has demonstrated a commitment toward ensuring that their residents and visitors receive the early lifesavings response proven to increase the chances of survival for heart attack victims by providing the four vital links of the "chain of survival:" • early access to emergency care; • early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (cpr); • early defibrillation; and • early advanced care. a heartsafe community is determined by matching the area's population with the number of fire, police, and ems, services, as well as various town departments, schools, and businesses that provide training opportunities and have publicly located automated external defibrillators (aeds). evfd april newsletter saturday, april 12 2008 @ 02:18 pm edt evfd april newsletter the april edition of the evfd's monthly newsletter is out!
